Introduction

The Journal of Sustainable Smart Technologies (JSST) recognizes the importance of research transparency, reproducibility, and scientific integrity. Access to research data enables verification of results, promotes collaboration, enhances trust in scientific findings, and accelerates innovation.

JSST encourages authors to make the data supporting their research findings openly available whenever possible, subject to ethical, legal, privacy, intellectual property, and confidentiality considerations.

Purpose

The objectives of this Data Availability Policy are to:

  • Promote transparency and reproducibility in research.
  • Facilitate validation and verification of research findings.
  • Encourage responsible data sharing practices.
  • Enhance scientific collaboration and innovation.
  • Support the principles of Open Science and sustainable knowledge dissemination.

Data Availability Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscripts describing the availability of data supporting the reported findings.

The statement should clearly indicate:

  • Whether data are publicly available.
  • Where data can be accessed.
  • Conditions for accessing the data.
  • Reasons for any restrictions.

Recommended Data Availability Statements

Publicly Available Data

"The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study/research work are publicly available in [Repository Name] at [DOI/URL]."

Available Upon Reasonable Request

"The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study/research work are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request."

Restricted Data

"The data supporting the findings of this study/research work are not publicly available due to confidentiality, privacy, legal, or ethical restrictions."

No New Data Generated

"No new data were created or analyzed in this study/research work."

  • Models
  • Protocols
  • Supplementary materials

Authors may deposit datasets in:

General Repositories

  • Zenodo

  • Dryad
  • Open Science Framework (OSF)

Institutional Repositories

  • University repositories
  • Research institution repositories

Subject-Specific Repositories

  • Domain-specific repositories relevant to the research area

Authors should provide persistent identifiers such as DOI links whenever available.

Ethical and Legal Considerations

JSST recognizes that certain datasets may not be publicly shared due to:

  • Privacy concerns
  • Personal data protection requirements
  • Confidentiality agreements
  • Intellectual property restrictions
  • National security considerations
  • Commercial sensitivity
  • Ethical obligations

In such cases, authors should clearly explain the restrictions within the Data Availability Statement.

Exceptions

JSST does not require public disclosure of data when:

  • Ethical obligations prohibit disclosure.

  • Intellectual property rights would be compromised.
  • Commercial confidentiality must be maintained.

Appropriate justification must be provided by authors.
