Journal of Sustainable Smart Technologies (JSST)

Purpose

The Journal of Sustainable Smart Technologies (JSST) is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. Retractions are issued when published articles are found to contain serious errors, ethical violations, or research misconduct that significantly affect the validity, reliability, or integrity of the work.

The purpose of a retraction is to correct the literature and inform readers of publications that contain seriously flawed or unreliable content.

Grounds for Retraction

JSST may retract a published article under the following circumstances:

Research Misconduct

  • Plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism
  • Data fabrication
  • Data falsification
  • Image manipulation
  • Citation manipulation
  • Peer review manipulation

Ethical Violations

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest
  • Unethical research practices
  • Lack of required approvals or permissions
  • Violation of publication ethics

Duplicate or Redundant Publication

  • Simultaneous publication in multiple journals
  • Republishing previously published work without proper disclosure

Major Errors

  • Significant methodological errors
  • Incorrect data or analysis
  • Errors that invalidate the conclusions of the study

Legal Concerns

  • Copyright infringement
  • Defamation
  • Court orders or legal obligations

Retraction Process

Initial Assessment

Concerns regarding a published article may be raised by:

  • Readers
  • Reviewers
  • Editors
  • Authors
  • Institutions
  • Research organizations

The Editorial Board will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether a formal investigation is warranted.

Investigation

The journal may:

  • Contact the corresponding author.
  • Request supporting documentation or explanations.
  • Consult reviewers, editors, or subject experts.
  • Seek input from affiliated institutions when appropriate.

All investigations shall be conducted fairly, objectively, and confidentially.

Editorial Decision

Following investigation, the Editorial Board may decide to:

  • Maintain the publication without changes.
  • Publish a correction (Erratum or Corrigendum).
  • Publish an Expression of Concern.
  • Retract the article.

The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board.

Retraction Notice

When an article is retracted:

  • The original article will remain accessible as part of the scholarly record.
  • The article will be clearly marked as "Retracted."
  • A formal Retraction Notice will be published.
  • The reasons for retraction will be transparently explained.

Retraction notices will be permanently linked to the original article.

Author-Initiated Retraction

Authors may request retraction if:

  • Significant errors are discovered.
  • Ethical concerns arise after publication.
  • New information invalidates the published findings.

The Editorial Board will evaluate such requests and determine the appropriate course of action.

Expression of Concern

In situations where an investigation is ongoing but conclusive evidence is not yet available, JSST may publish an Expression of Concern to inform readers of potential issues associated with the article.

Corrections and Errata

Not all errors require retraction.

Minor errors that do not affect the validity of the research may be corrected through:

  • Errata
  • Corrigenda
  • Editorial Notes

Corrections will remain permanently linked to the original article.

Transparency and Integrity

Retraction decisions are made solely to protect the integrity of the scholarly record and not as a punitive measure against authors.
