Introduction

The Journal of Sustainable Smart Technologies (JSST) periodically publishes Special Issues dedicated to emerging research themes, interdisciplinary topics, and areas of significant scientific and technological importance. Special Issues provide an opportunity to bring together high-quality research contributions addressing specific challenges, innovations, and developments within the journal's scope, particularly those supporting sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

All Special Issues maintain the same standards of quality, ethics, transparency, and peer review as regular issues.

Proposal for Special Issues

Researchers, institutions, academic societies, and Editorial Board Members may propose Special Issues.

A proposal should include:

  • Proposed title
  • Theme description
  • Objectives and significance
  • Scope and topics
  • Proposed Guest Editor(s)
  • Tentative timeline
  • Expected number of submissions

The Editorial Board will evaluate all proposals before approval.

Appointment of Guest Editors

Special Issues may be managed by one or more Guest Editors appointed by the Editor-in-Chief.

Guest Editors should possess:

  • Recognized expertise in the proposed subject area.
  • Strong publication record.
  • Previous editorial or reviewing experience.
  • Commitment to publication ethics.

The final approval of Guest Editors rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Responsibilities of Guest Editors

Guest Editors are responsible for:

  • Promoting the Special Issue.
  • Encouraging quality submissions.
  • Recommending qualified reviewers.
  • Assisting with editorial evaluations.
  • Ensuring adherence to timelines.
  • Supporting ethical publishing practices.

Guest Editors do not have final authority over publication decisions. All final decisions remain with the Editor-in-Chief.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Special Issues undergo:

Double-Blind Peer Review

The review process is identical to that used for regular issues.

Special Issue manuscripts are evaluated based on:

  • Originality
  • Scientific quality
  • Relevance to the theme
  • Methodological rigor
  • Ethical compliance
  • Contribution to knowledge

Acceptance standards are not relaxed for Special Issues.

Ethical Standards

All Special Issue submissions must comply with:

Special Issues are subject to the same ethical standards as regular issues.

Editorial Independence

The journal maintains full editorial independence in all publication decisions.

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to:

  • Remove Guest Editors if necessary.
  • Modify Special Issue schedules.
  • Cancel Special Issues that fail to meet journal standards.

Publication Charges

Any Article Processing Charges (APCs) applicable to Special Issue submissions shall follow the journal's APC Policy unless otherwise announced.

Fee waivers or discounts may be offered for specific Special Issues at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

Each Special Issue will generally include:

  • Submission Deadline
  • Peer Review Period
  • Revision Period
  • Final Acceptance
  • Publication
